Power Up Your Mind: Choosing Your Thoughts, Choosing Your Destiny
I'm excited to share some thoughts on a topic that's been weighing heavily on my heart lately: the power of choice, specifically how we choose to think.
It's something I believe is absolutely fundamental to our success, both in business and in life, and it ties in beautifully with Habit Six of our Seven Habits of a Remarkable Christian Business Coach: Develop a Warrior-Like Mindset.
We all know that life throws curveballs. Amazing opportunities come our way, sometimes so exciting they can almost blind us.
And, of course, we face challenges, moments that can easily drag us down into self-doubt and negative thinking. It's in these moments, the highs and the lows, that the power of choice truly comes into play.
Think about it: We have the ability to choose how we respond to every single situation. We can choose to see a setback as a failure, or as a learning opportunity.
We can choose to let fear paralyze us, or we can choose to step forward in faith. We can even choose how we interpret those amazing opportunities – are we approaching them with wisdom and discernment, or are we letting the excitement cloud our judgment?
This isn't just wishful thinking. This is a spiritual principle. God has given us the power of choice. As Philippians 4:8 reminds us, "whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." We are called to be intentional about our thought life.
This is where prayer becomes absolutely essential. We need to constantly be in communication with God, asking for guidance and wisdom. When faced with a challenge, pray for strength and clarity. When presented with an opportunity, pray for discernment and wisdom. He promises to guide us, but we have to be willing to ask and to listen.
This concept of choosing our thoughts is like a power cycle. It can completely change everything – for better or for worse. Negative thinking can kill our momentum, stifle our creativity, and ultimately derail our success. But positive, faith-filled thinking can energize us, empower us, and propel us forward.
Developing this "warrior-like mindset," as our Habit Six calls it, is about cultivating this ability to choose our thoughts intentionally. It’s about recognizing when we’re slipping into negative patterns and actively choosing to shift our focus to what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. It’s about partnering with God to renew our minds daily.
I encourage you this week to be more aware of your thoughts. What are you choosing to focus on? Are your thoughts aligned with God's word and His promises? If not, take some time to pray and ask for His help in shifting your perspective.
Let's work together to build this "warrior-like mindset" and harness the incredible power of choice.
