Let's talk about decisions. We make them constantly, right? From the small daily choices to the big, potentially life-altering ones in our businesses and lives. Often, when faced with a tough call, our immediate reaction is to buckle down, analyze, strategize, and try to figure it all out ourselves. It's that classic "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality, applied to problem-solving.
And don't get me wrong, analysis and strategy are super important! Diligence and hard work are key. But there's something I've been reflecting on lately, especially as a person of faith. Sometimes, in our rush to solve everything on our own, we miss inviting in a crucial partner.
For me, as a Christian, my faith isn't just a Sunday thing, or something separate from the "real world" of business and tough decisions. It's woven into who I am. And honestly, for a long time, I think I subconsciously tried to compartmentalize it when it came to making significant choices. Business decisions felt like they required a purely logical, self-reliant approach.
But I've learned, sometimes the hard way, that trying to navigate complex situations solely on my own strength and understanding can be exhausting and lead to a lot of anxiety. It’s like trying to carry a massive weight by yourself when there’s someone right there offering to help.
Inviting God into the decision-making process isn't a passive act. It's not about abdicating responsibility. It's about acknowledging that there's wisdom and perspective available to us that goes beyond our own limited view. It’s about praying for guidance, seeking discernment, and being open to promptings that might not align with the most obvious or "logical" path.
It's about recognizing that our faith calls us to trust, even when we don't have all the answers laid out perfectly in a spreadsheet. It's about seeking peace about a direction, rather than just intellectual agreement.
When we actively bring our faith into the room where decisions are made, it shifts things. It can bring a sense of calm amidst chaos, a different kind of clarity, and a reminder that we aren't solely responsible for the outcome – our role is to be obedient and faithful in the process.
So, the next time you're facing a significant decision, pause before you go into full "figure-it-out-on-my-own" mode. If you are a person of faith, consider this: have you invited God into the process? Have you asked for guidance? Are you listening?
It's a simple shift, but in my experience, it can make all the difference.
