The Habits Holding You Back

June 26, 20252 min read

Here's your quick tip for crushing it as a coach: consistently identify and audit the habits that are holding you back.

We all have them. Those sneaky little habits, good and bad. And when it comes to being a top-notch coach, it's the ones holding us back that we really need to tackle. We're talking about those ingrained behaviors that, without us even realizing it, can put a real damper on our potential and effectiveness.

The coaches who truly win are the ones consistently checking in on their behaviors, especially those bad habits that just don't add value—or worse, actually block success. Think about it:

  • Are you being truly honest with yourself? Sometimes the biggest habit holding us back is a lack of self-awareness or a reluctance to admit where we could improve. This isn't about being overly critical, but about genuine self-reflection.

  • Is the fear of the unknown stopping you from trying new things? Sticking to what's comfortable can feel safe, but growth often happens just outside that comfort zone. If you're consistently avoiding new strategies or challenging situations, that's a habit to examine.

  • Is procrastination your middle name? We all put things off sometimes, but if it's a consistent pattern, it can seriously impact your productivity and the results you see with your clients.

  • Are you guilty of labeling all your work as productive, even when it's not really moving the needle? It's easy to fill our days with "busy" work, but true productivity comes from focusing on tasks that genuinely contribute to your goals and your clients' success. This habit can mask inefficiency and keep you from tackling what truly matters.

These things, big or small, can seriously get in the way of you being the best coach you can be.

So, here’s the call to action: make it a point to keep a super consistent watch on your habits. Don't just let them run on autopilot. Each month, give yourself a real audit. Look at your daily routines, your reactions, your patterns. Figure out which habits are serving you and which ones need to go. Let's make sure we're always growing and getting better! It’s an ongoing process, but one that will profoundly impact your coaching journey.

What’s one habit you’re ready to audit this month?
